Forget the socks
You might think it unsanitary or uncomfortable to go sockless, but loafers were not designed to be worn with socks. It’s essential that you ditch them and go without this spring / summer. When wearing your tailored suit the leg length of your trousers will be just right, so you won’t be showing off too much bare ankle. You’ll soon find you quite enjoy going without socks – trust us.
Always dress smart
Many associate dressing for spring / summer as dressing in casual attire, but it’s not about wearing denim shorts and tank tops. You can still look and feel cool in a tailored suit, lightweight knit jumper and smart pair of loafers, and if you always look smart, you’ll never be underdressed for anything. It’s far worse to be underdressed than overdressed, and the warmer weather is the perfect opportunity to enjoy dressing up everyday.
Don’t be afraid of colour
While summer pastels, whites, creams and navy blue are all classic colours that everyone should wear, you mustn’t be afraid to opt for a splash of colour every now and then. A bold shirt or jumper is the best way to gain attention for all the right reasons – you just need to make sure you don’t go overboard. Pair your brightly coloured top half with your plain trousers, or opt for some bold shoes for a unique, chic look.
Invest in a navy blue blazer
You can’t go wrong with a navy blazer. A well-tailored jacket can instantly complete an outfit, but during the summer months navy blue is the colour to rely on. It will go perfectly with jeans, your linen trousers or even shorts, and of course the trousers you bought it with. Your navy blazer should be your go-to item of clothing – you’ll get plenty of wear out of it.
Try a hat
Not everybody suits hats, but if you can pull of a Panama or trilby hat, you should definitely give it a go. A hat will not only help you to keep cool during the summer and protect your face and neck from the sun, but it can help you to stand out from the rest. Panama hats have been in fashion for decades and instantly create a classic look that only the coolest of men can pull off. If you look good in a Panama hat, you should wear one every day.
Always wear sunglasses
If the sun is shining, make sure you have your sunnies on. New styles might come and go, but aviator sunglasses will never go out of fashion because they are practical and classic in style – what colour you pick is up to you. You can wear them with your suit, your jeans, your shorts or swimming trunks – get a few pairs, so you have them with you at all times.
