When it comes to tailored suits, Hemingway will ensure that we listen to your preferences and requirements to create the perfect suit for you that has a faultless fit. However, what if a gentleman decides he wants to customise his suit?
There are two types of tailored suits - made-to-measure and bespoke. Made-to-measure suits are more common than bespoke and are made from an existing pattern using the gentleman’s measurements. With made-to-measure, you can choose what kind of suit you require by basing this on one that has already been made, which is usually the cheaper option.
Bespoke suits on the other hand, use a totally unique pattern that has not been seen anywhere else. Your measurements are taken and then a completely new pattern will be created to your requirements. With bespoke suits, the options are unlimited however this is usually the most expensive choice.
The question on how customisable a tailored suit can be all depends on whether it is made-to-measure or bespoke. To outline the options, Hemingway have put together a useful guide on each aspect of the made-to-measure and bespoke suit which will advise you on how customisable both suits really are.
All tailored suits start with an initial consultation, where we’ll discuss your style preferences and the occasion you require your suit for. If you’re opting for a made-to-measure suit, you may have an idea of what type of suit and the colour or pattern you’re after but if not, we can help by offering a selection of sample garments for you to choose from. Patterns for a made-to-measure suit are based on standard clothes sizes and modified based on the client’s measurements, and our team of tailoring experts will modify the patterns which are available to fit you.
If you’ve decided on a bespoke suit, our team of professionals will firstly discuss your style preferences and what will make the perfect suit for you at your first consultation. There are many more options available with a bespoke suit and the possibilities are endless. We then create a unique pattern made specifically for you that you won’t find anywhere else, making it truly original and personal.
In terms of fabrics, there are hundreds to choose from with made-to-measure. We at Hemingway will help you to choose the right one for you by listening to your requirements and preferences and providing expert advice. Our team are highly experienced in tailoring and have many years of experience under our belt, so you can be sure that your suit is in good hands with us.
With bespoke on the other hand, there are many more options than made-to-measure with thousands of fabrics available. Hemingway will help you to choose a cloth from our wide selection of options, from traditional Irish linens to feather-light Italian worsteds. If you’re a little unsure of which material to choose from, we will be happy to guide you through this process using our knowledge and expertise as we understand this process can take time.
Once you’ve chosen the style and cloth, it’s time to customise all of the options. There are limited options you can customise with made-to-measure, and these include buttons, pocket style, vent options, trouser pleats, cuffs, interior linings and more. Customise your suit however you like.
With bespoke, you can pretty much customise anything you can think of. Let your imagination run wild with the unlimited customisable options available, which allows you to create your very own garment which is personal to you.
When it comes to measuring, we take a variety of measurements and figuration details from your body to create the perfect fit for your made-to-measure suit. We then get to work on your suit and after 6-8 weeks, you will return to us for your final fitting. During this stage, we make any appropriate adjustments if this is required and your suit will only be handed over to you once both yourself and our team are confident that it is the perfect fit.
For a bespoke fitted suit, multiple fittings are required. Measuring for your suit using bespoke tailoring is truly unique and our tailors will take note of your stance, build, posture and every other little detail at your fitting. With bespoke, every fitting will build on top of the last allowing for a more precise look with every detail of the suit from the shoulders to the legs. Taking our tailors a minimum of 55 hours to create, Hemingway believe a bespoke suit allows you to get the ultimate tailoring experience. You may have to wait around 12 weeks until your suit is fully completed for this service, so make sure that you arrange a consultation with us well in advance especially if your suit is for an upcoming occasion or event.
