Here at Hemingway Tailors we feel that a bespoke three-piece suit looks good on anyone, but of course the fashion world has always had its leading lights – those people who can turn heads and steal admiring glances due to their style, taste and natural élan alone. If you’re looking to take style inspiration from the world’s best-dressed this year, look no further than these five style icons…
British actor Tom Hiddleston rose to prominence after his role in the Marvel Thor franchise, but is now almost better known for his impeccable style than his assured acting. Named by Glamour readers as the world’s best-dressed man in 2014, Hiddleston only missed out on the coveted GQ top spot by one place. In the words of none other than Giorgio Armani: ‘no-one can carry off a slim, dark suit in such a contemporary way as him.’
Another celebrity lauded by Glamour magazine, Jennifer Lawrence topped their 2014 best-dressed women list – rising 47 places from the year before. Star of the Hunger Games franchise, Lawrence wowed at last year’s Oscars ceremony in a scarlet column dress by Christian Dior. Although Lawrence’s enviable figure means she looks fantastic in a designer dress, she’s also capable of pulling off a tailored suit like no-one else – as she demonstrated in October 2014 at the Serena premiere.
22-year-old Douglas Booth is certainly an upcoming style icon to keep your eye on. The Worried About the Boy and Jupiter Ascending star was named as one of Harper’s Bazaar’s best-dressed men of 2014 – picked out for his penchant for tailored suits and traditional tweeds.
The beautiful Django Unchained and Scandal star Kerry Washington was selected by Vogue as one of the best-dressed women on the red carpet at last year’s Oscars. Washington appeared at the ceremony while sporting a visible baby bump, and glowed in an elegant dress by Jason Wu. Kerry is always the height of style and sophistication in her public appearances, whether wearing flowing gowns or tailored suits.
Last year’s GQ award for the year’s best-dressed man went – somewhat surprisingly – to breakfast DJ Nick Grimshaw. Beaten by Grimshaw and Hiddleston into a wholly respectable third place was the British actor and style icon Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch dresses in a far more traditional and reserved manner than award winner Grimshaw, with the Sherlock star’s tweed suits and capes described as ‘heritage chic’. Cumberbatch rose 21 places up the GQ list in 2014, however, so watch out for his momentum this year…
